Liverpool Directory 1766
One of the earliest surviving Liverpool directories, this collection lists over 1,000 merchants, tradesmen and principal inhabitants of the town alphabetically by surname, with occupation and street address. Liverpool in 1766 was at the height of the Atlantic trade era — a prosperous port whose merchants dealt in sugar, tobacco, cotton and slaves. The directory captures this mercantile world in detail, with entries for merchants, factors, attorneys, sea captains and the full range of supporting trades.
